Kasey Kahne Set To Join California Speedway Walk Of Fame
Kasey Kahne, the driver of the No. 9 Dodge Dealers/UAW Dodge Charger, will take his place alongside past California Speedway NASCAR NEXTEL Cup race winners when he is inducted into the California Speedway Walk of Fame on Saturday, September 1 at 2:00 pm. Fans can join Speedway officials and Kahne as his footprints, signature and a bronze plaque are preserved in concrete during an enshrinement ceremony held at Gate 12. Kahne, one of NASCAR's brightest and most popular young drivers took home the checkered flag at last year's Labor Day weekend NASCAR NEXTEL Cup race at California Speedway. That victory marked the fifth of a Cup-high six victories Kahne would notch in a memorable 2006. In earning the win, Kahne's average race speed of 144.462 mph set a new record for fastest average race speed in California Speedway's September Cup race. Kahne joins Jeff Gordon ('97, '99 & 04), Mark Martin ('98), Jeremy Mayfield ('00), Rusty Wallace ('01), Jimmie Johnson ('02), Kurt Busch ('03), Elliott Sadler ('04), Kyle Busch ('05), Greg Biffle ('05) and Matt Kenseth ('06) as drivers to be enshrined at the Speedway's Walk of Fame. In addition to the Walk of Fame induction ceremony, California Speedway will host a star-filled lineup of performances and events throughout the Labor Day race weekend. Platinum recording artist 30 Seconds to Mars will perform during the Miller Lite Rock 'n Racing show prior to the Sharp AQUOS® 500, while 25-time Grammy Award winner Stevie Wonder will serve as the race's Grand Marshal. Other musicians scheduled to perform on Saturday and Sunday include Melee, Little Caesar, Peter Brandon and Volumen Cero. Additionally, the high-flying Metal Mulisha will perform their one-of-a kind stunts in the Opportunity, California FanZone. The NASCAR Nextel Cup Series returns to California Speedway over Labor Day Weekend for the Sharp AQUOS® 500.
